Interface for the communication between automated guided vehicles (AGV) and a master control

Integrating new automated guided vehicles (AGVs) into an existing system is complex. Parallel operation of vehicles from different manufacturers is almost impossible.
Therefore, the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) e.V. and the VDMA Association for Materials Handling and Intralogistics have cooperated with IFL, KIT. This cooperation has resulted in the VDA5050 - a standardized interface for communication between FTF and master control.
The interface enables AGVs to be integrated quickly and flexibly into a process automation system, regardless of the manufacturer. The idea of "PlugAndPlay" is pursued through a uniform, overarching coordination level with the corresponding logics for all transport vehicles, vehicle types and manufacturers. However, existing AGV systems can also be easily integrated through vertical communication.
