Safe mechatronic systems in intralogistics (SIMESI)

The department of Safe mechatronic systems in intralogistics (SIMESI) strengthens the Institutes activities in the field of technical logistics.


The focus of the department is on the functional safety of mechatronic systems, especially in the field of intralogistics. An essential part of this work is the design of safety-related control systems according to relevant legislation and standards, for example DIN EN 61508 and DIN EN ISO 13849. This includes conceptualisation and development of safety-related system components, such as sensors and controllers, as well as research of system topologies. Different approaches are designed in order to assure the safety of the mechatronic systems during their complete safety lifecycle, from the planning and development, through commissioning, operation and decommissioning, such that the systems do not impose dangers on the users or the environment.


The research work of the department is mainly conducted through Co-operation projects and consulting with industrial partners. The department also provides teaching around the topic of functional safety to students across varying study fields.
